Okay, so yesterday I was kind of trapped at the Stampede Saloon (we were loading out another show at the other side of the dome) at the Ink and Iron festival down in the LBC when Chapel of Thieves went on. They were the first band to play--and we all know about opening acts--but you know what? They were totally worth checking out! Sort of gothic SoCal punk.
Or maybe it was just that it was cool to watch fork lifts and semis zooming around the Spruce Goose dome to the music--sort of like some sort of bizarro ballet.
I wish I'd realized that the last band of the night would be Black Rebel Motorcycle Club--maybe then I would have stuck around! :( I also missed the Black Angels! :( But I'd seen them recently, too.
But seriously, if you are into the inkeed lifestyle, or custom cars and lowriders, or rockabilly, get yourself down to the Queen Mary pronto!
I had so much fun tonight hosting Mixtape Monday! I strongly urge all of you Rockaholics to get on the forums and start posting your mixtape playlists NOW because it is just that awesome. Seriously: you hang out in a radio station, all the people are so cool and friendly, you listen to great music that you selected and then talk about the songs on air--what could be better?
As promised, here's the complete playlist from tonight:
Proto-Punk: "Sweet Jane" The Velvet Underground
Political/Anarcho-Punk: "Kill the Poor" Dead Kennedys
Glam Punk: "Lust for Life" Iggy Pop and the Stooges
British Punk: "God Save the Queen" The Sex Pistols
SoCal Punk: "Los Angeles" X
Goth Punk/Post-Punk: "Cities in Dust" Siouxsie and the Banshees
I am so STOKED because tonight I get to play my Abbreviated Tour Through Punk Rock Subgenres mixtape for y'all on Mixtape Monday! I'll be posting the complete mixtape playlist after the show tonight. I hope you'll all be listening at 9PM! Rock on!
