My Lakers are the new Western Conference Champions - Bring on the Celtics!
4 down, hundreds to go!
Once again (for the 4th weekend in a row) I found myself in a movie theater. I should admit that I am not only a rock-a-holic but a film-a-holic or movie-a-ddict or something. Anyway, I went on Friday to see the epic, astounding, stupendous AND magnificent Narnia Prince Caspian. Well, let me just say that those words I just used to describe the film came from the Walden Media press kit. I would not have used them to describe the film as It did not live up to all the hype in my opinion. Before hardcore Nanians start to flame me and send ugly photos of themselves naked with nasty virus's embeded in them please understand I am first a Tolkien fan and everything must be held up to that standard. I think that Lord of the Rings and Narnia are for different audiences. Narnia being for a younger more innocent group. With that said let us leave this potentially volitale debate and get to the meat of things. (See how I quietly back away from that one?)
This summer movie season I have watched 4 movies so far: Forbiddon Kingdom (3.0 stars) Ironman (4.2 Stars) Speed Racer (2.0 Stars) and Narnia (2.8 Stars) Let me put it simply. Don't waste precious time and money seeing lame movies. Spend your hard earned cash on Ironman - you will not be dissappointed. Then wait for movies like Indiana Jones 4, Han****, Sex in the City, Batman 2 (again...), etc. There are a lot of really entertaining and "good" movies still to come. Don't be discouraged because a few big budget wallet sqeezers didn't live up to expectation. Do like I do. When there are bad movies playing head out to the pool and show off your tanning "blank canvas." That is what I say to explain the glare from my very white skin when I go swimming. Or maybe invite some friends over to watch movies you already know are good. Or maybe even bad. In June this year there is the 1 and only Friday the 13th of 2008. We have a tradition that includeds finding 2 of the worst horror films still for rent (or for sale at the $.99 store) and watching them with the intend of making fun of them from start to finish and eating a lot of snacks and making each other laugh while we do it.
What I am really trying to say is since movies are such a big part of our culture make plans to make sure they work for you and not the other way around. My apologies to those employed in the film industry ;-) To everyone else I just want to say have a great summer at the movies and if you ever need a friend to hold your soda while you run to the bathroom during a slow part of the movie... you know where to find me :-)
Maybe I made a mistake
So I actually paid to go see Speed Racer. What can I say. I used to watch the original "Japanimation" series ...in my underware.... eating crackers and cheese. Everyone sing with me, "Her he comes, here comes speed racer, he's a demon on wheels, he's a demon and he's gonna be chasin' after someone. Go speed racer, go speed racer, go speed racer GO-oooo! Wasn't that fun. I hope you enjoyed it because that was better and more exciting than the movie I saw over the weekend. By the way can someone please tell me what happened to the mach 5 that makes them say, near the end of the movie, that speed racer no longer has a car and they need to build a brand new one? Did I doze off and miss something or was their a serious continuity problem with the script? Just wondering if it was me. I'm sure someone can set me straight on this. Bottom line here: if you are under age 10 go see it. Lots of cool colors and cars. Everyone else take your 10 and under kid (or you neightbors kid) to see it but bring an book and a flashlight for yourself and do us all a favor please sit in the back. That flashlight can get really annoying :-)
