So every summer I think there is a special thing that exists. Besides longer days, sleeping in, and sunburns that leave awful tan lines. I'm talking about summer music! For me being born and raised in Southern California and spending most of my life in Huntington Beach, I grew up hearing a LOT of Beach Boys songs. When I was in high school though I came across a band called The Thrills that sounded like a updated version of The Beach Boys. I'm not kidding! But what surprised me even more is that these boys sing songs like "Santa Cruz (Your Not That Far)" and "Don't Steal Our Sun" .... when the boys are from Dublin, Ireland! After they took a summer trip to Southern California they decided to use the trip as inspiration for a lot of their songs. After releasing the albums So Much For The City and Let's Bottle Bohemia they put out their third album Teenagers which didn't have much success and led to them being dropped from their label. But basically I'm trying to say that this is the best music to take to the beach, a bar-b-q, or just drive along to with the windows down. Check out the video for the single "Big Sur"

CSS is the name of a power pop/rock band from Brazil which stands for Cansei de Ser Sexy which in Brazilian literally means "tired of being sexy" - and seriously can you blame them? Besides being a group full of extremely indie looking young folks the group is full of talent! The group formed back in 2003 and have put out three albums since. In 2006 their single "Lets Make Love and Listen to Death From Above" became a huge hit in the indie club scenes and the band embarked on a international tour. But their single "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" launched them even further when Apple decided to use it in their campaign for the iPod Touch. In July they released their latest album Donkey, and the first single "Rat Is Dead (Rage)" gives off an explosion of sound that you will want to dance and scream along to! If you are a fan of bands like Le Tigre, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs then you should check out CSS fo sho! The band will be hitting up one of my favorite venues, The Mayan, on September 22nd so be sure to check them out then.

So anyone who knows me, knows that Rilo Kiley is one of my favorite bands - because I adore Jenny Lewis! Well, I got news that her second solo album is coming out this September! Jenny and her band along with The Watson Twins will be hitting the road again and be doing some shows with fellow indie artist, Conor Oberst. I saw her twice on her last solo tour and she was great, so I highly suggest you all get out there and see her when she comes to LA.
