About Me: Yvonne Velazquez is my real name....if you don't like how I pronounce it on-air...take it up with my parents since I've been saying it that way my whole life.
I was born in Brooklyn, NY...fuhgettaboutit!! Moved to Jersey when I was 12 and yes, I love a good mall that's why I now live in the Valley. Went to college at the Jersey shore where I became obsessed with radio.
I did all I could at the Monmouth University radio station...WMCX...on-air, promotions, programming, general manager. I graduated after 5 long years, only to get SIDETRACKED. Yup, I ended up working at MTV (not a bad diversion) for 5 years...everything from intern up to coordinating producer. Working there is where I first experienced sunny LA...working some of our big shows at the Shrine, Universal Amphitheater and such.
While working for MTV, I went to New Orleans, where I met this crazy program director who I tricked into giving me an on-air shift. Little did I know, he got the last laugh...there I was working midnight to 6AM making 7 bucks an hour and eating tomato soup (it's all I could afford). But as with anything, stick it out and all good things come. My first program director, Joe Larson (hi Joe), gave me my shot in mornings....boy did I suck! Seriously find an aircheck and get a good laugh....but hey you gotta start somewhere.
Post B97 in New Orleans, I made stops in Myrtle Beach, SC - the Jersey shore and even back to MTV to launch their first ever 24-hour satellite radio station. My last stop before 98-7 was Mix 102.7 in New York City.
On a personal note, I'm 100% latina and I love my rice and beans!! Pasteles, platanos and pernil are all tied for second. I've got a german husband who gave me 3 cute little boys with dark skin and blond hair...crazy lookin buggers. My kids are 6, 5 and 2 and a newborn baby girl!
I host the Rewind at Noon everyday...we've done an hour of Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers, Depeche Mode and U2...want us to play an hour of your fave band...hit me up on the text 22987!
Music: Linkin Park, Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam...I'm a 90's rock girl but digging some of the new stuff too!
Movies: Who has time for movies when you have 4 kids....last we saw was Iron Man...and yeah that was for the big boys...couldn't tell you what it was about b/c I kept running out with a kid to use the bathroom, get a snack blah blah blah!
TV: House, American Idol, Hell's Kitchen (love them obnoxious Brit's), Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives (I'm a chic - what do you expect).
Books: US Weekly...gonna have to qualify as a book or else it's Goodnight Moon!
Likes: Hanging out with my kids - outside preferably - and taking them to concerts - they've seen Linkin Park twice - even Puddle of Mudd.
Dislikes: Strange people!
Hobbies: Drinking Wine!

Hey Guys - So this is my first blog since going on maternity leave 8 weeks ago today. Sorry it's just been a blur of feedings and poopy diapers! I must say having 4 has put me slightly over the edge but mommy's nightly gl**** of wine (like how I made it sound like one) has been a good helper. A lot of you have been emailing asking for a pic of Ava...so here you go...back with you on June 30th!
